there is five way to get citizenship in India- Birth, descent, registration, and incorporation of territory.

Citizenship by Birth:

If you are born in India on or after July 1, 1987, and either of your parents is an Indian citizen, you are a citizen by birth.

Citizenship by Descent:

If you were born outside India on or after January 26, 1950, but before December 10, 1992, and your father was an Indian citizen at the time of your birth, you can acquire citizenship by descent.

If you are born outside India on or after December 10, 1992, and either of your parents is an Indian citizen at the time of your birth, you can acquire citizenship by descent.

Citizenship by Registration:

Foreigners who have been residing in India for a specific period and have intentions to settle in the country can apply for citizenship by registration. Specific eligibility criteria and conditions apply.

Citizenship by Naturalization:

Foreigners who have been residing in India for a certain number of years can apply for citizenship by naturalization. Generally, you must have lived in India for at least 11 years out of the preceding 14 years and continuously for 12 months immediately before applying.

Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI):

Individuals of Indian origin who are citizens of other countries can apply for Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI). OCI is not full citizenship but offers certain rights and privileges, such as the ability to travel to India without a visa, own property, and work.


There are three ways to lose citizenship-Renunciation, termination, and deprivation.
